22 March 2013
Khuram Gilani recently joined The Broadgate Financial Group as our Business Development Manager. We had the chance to speak with him to find out his views:
Q: What are your job responsibilities as a Business Development Manager for the Group?
A: My main task here at Broadgate is to attract new opportunities, while looking after existing projects. We are currently working on a product called Easy panel under our subsidiary Broadgate Construction, I am currently working with a family-owned conglomerate holding company in Thailand on a hybrid pre-fabricated panel. While also looking after new projects with the Ministry of Energy to acquire solar power plants in Thailand. On our newest project, we are working with the local government of Bangkok to boost energy conservation.
Q: You have been raised in an international environment (Pakistan, India, Australia, Philippines, United Kingdom and Thailand), how has that helped you in life?
A: Growing up in a diverse environment made it easy for me to communicate with people from different cultures. This is very important if you want to be successful as a Business Development Manager in South East Asia. Being able to interact with people from different cultures and understanding their way has made it easier for me to figure out their want’s & need’s and I tend to use this information to attract new business.
Q: What are you passionate about?
A: I am passionate about gaining knowledge, there is so much out that that we are not aware of, my passion is to learn as much as I can while I can. I like to learn from people and experiences. I enjoy new things and I always take interests in new projects and prospects. So you could say I am passionate about expending my horizon.
Q: You have a very diversified academic history starting off in Australia studying for a Bachelors in Media Communication then moving to Thailand to complete your Bachelors in Marketing and a Masters in Human Resource Management, how does it benefit you here at Broadgate?
A: My job as the Business Development Manager actually involves a lot of marketing aspects, like selling and marketing the services Broadgate has to offer. In terms of Media Communication, I have learnt to use various techniques to make creative presentations and converting all the advertising and marketing material into a presentable format to indulge my clients. From my human resources studies I learnt how to align the company’s strategy and human resource strategy. This involves directing work to my co workers, rewarding them and ensuring that they have clear vision and goals in mind and I insure that our goals are met at the end of the day.
Q: What made you decide to stay in Thailand?
A: I was born and raised here, so Thailand is where I consider my home. I am Thai by nationality and I have spent the majority of my life in Bangkok, and it has a lot to offer, the economy here is great, people here are excellent and the food is awesome.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I have a few other jobs (I own a business where we work on various projects such as Trading, Recruitment, Events and Tour and travel), which takes up quite a lot of my time. I am also working for the Cricket Association of Thailand, being the Manager of the national team and looking after the marketing and development side for the association. Apart from that I enjoy playing sports. I play cricket myself for my own team Asia United Cricket Club (AUCC) and also love to go wakeboarding in Bang na when I have spare time.
