The research and development of this technology was initially paid for by the UK government and the technology is very often already proven and has extensive patent protection globally.

It is worth noting that various technologies that we take for granted now in our everyday life started life as defense research. These include the microwave, computer security encryption, burglar alarms and botox to name but a few.
